A patient or a patient's relatives can contact a social worker in various problems caused by the medical condition as well as in matters related to social security and social services. In the event of illness, the social workers provide assistance and support in the changed situation. The social workers give information on issues such as benefits and services available through public social services (services for the handicapped, home help service, subsistence subsidy etc.), benefits available from Kela (sickness insurance, nursing and care subsidies), rehabilitation, insurance matters, pensions, and welfare for intoxicant abusers.
